Mixing in the roading industry has evolved over recent times. Traditionally storage of bitumen and emulsions in tanks used side entry mixers to keep the product moving. These mixers provide gentle agitation but were prone to sealing issues due to the shaft entry point into the tank being at the bottom of the tank. Mixtec can offer these mixers with mechanical seals and back up packed glands incorporated.
With the advent of new products in the industry, like polymer modified bitumen, much more energy is required to mix the polymers and binders into the bitumen. This has led to top entry mixers becoming the norm. A top entry mixer with a shaft running to the bottom of the tank and carrying multiple impellers, can quickly mix the polymers and binders into bitumen. These mixers are much larger and require a lot more power to run, but do overcome the sealing issue of the side entry mixers.
Mixtec – Western Engineering offer both side entry mixers for bitumen and emulsion storage but in recent times have been supplying top entry mixers for many new applications. Additionally Mixtec – Western Engineering have supplied smaller additives mixers, IBC mixers and inline static mixers for chemical addition prior to load out. Mixtec are also able to supply shear mixers and pumps for the likes of rubber addition.
Recent mixers supplied to the roading industry:
- 100m3 Bitumen Epoxy Emulsion Top Entry Mixer
- 37m3 Polymer Modified Bitumen mixers
- Additives mixers
- Static mixers for blending bitumen streams
